I was going to turn each of my ‘Hits of Nostalgia’ Spotify mixes into their own individual blog posts (and maybe I will one day) but after composing my little 90s rant + playlist, I was hit with the reality of what the hell am I supposed to write about for the 80s, of which I only spent 7 years of life? And the 70s? Don’t even get me started on my lack of memory of that decade.
Uncle jokes aside, I really do like these nostalgia mixes. Both in putting them together and throwing them on shuffle later (speaking of which, here comes some clickable cover art that opens each mix in Spotify).
These decade playlists provide a nice outlet for discovery and re-discovery. Sure there is enough old faithfuls to fill each mix to the brim, but as I’ve said before, the exciting thing about Spotify (which helps me suppress the non-exciting parts about) is how much new-to-me music from the past there is to explore. And if you've never heard something before, even if it's from the 1960's, doesn't that make it new?
Whether you feel like re-living one of your lived-in decades, or whether you feel like magically transporting yourself into a decade you never was, we’ve got you covered for as far back as the 50s.
Each playlist has 54 tracks, but to keep things fresh, I’ll be jumping in and mixing up the song selection throughout the year. So press the 'follow' button over on Spotify for auto-magic updates if you fancy that sort of thing.
And if 54 tracks for a decade is not long enough for you, once we get into the 2010’s the playlist sizes start getting a little bit mental.
