LOCALLY RECOMMENDED W/ MADDISUN
#1 - What is the one album (or ep or song) that you think should be the very next musical thing that everyone presses play on the next time they find themselves thinking “what should I listen to now”?
Maggie Rogers - Surrender.
Real raw honest rock music. Maggie self produces a lot of her music and for that reason we should all be supporting the hell outta her! She's super authentic and inspiring to all (but especially female artists).
#2 - What is the one movie or tv show that you think should be next in everybody’s metaphorical Netflix queue (ie. it doesn’t have to be available on Netflix or even available on streaming, just a movie or tv show that comes to mind when thinking about what you've enjoyed enough to want to tell someone else to go check it out)?
Daisy Jones & The Six! Especially for those vintage, classic music lovers.
I fell in love with the show... it really captured the vibe of being a rockstar in the 70s, but also.. the music, costumes, acting, it's all amazing!
#3 - I (and by “I” I mean “whoever is reading this”) am going to the local book store (or maybe the local library) to find the very next book that I will be putting some valuable ‘me time' aside for. Which book would you get, if you were me (and, I suppose, if you hadn’t already read what you’re about to suggest so you could get to read it again for the first time)?
This one is tough because I'll be honest, I rarely have time to read. When I do, it's usually self help/music books.
I honestly LOVED the "Gold Dust Woman" book on the life of Stevie Nicks. Really brought me closer to one of my favourite artists. I am currently reading Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Estès and it's a deep dive into womanhood and self exploration.
#4 - Because the people who frequent mountain towns often like to jump around the map (often to other mountowns), I consider the HWY 95EH "local area" to be anywhere that someone living in the Kimberley/Cranbrook area would consider driving to — SO, WITH THAT "LOCAL AREA" CAVEAT IN MIND — please provide some of your top personal recommendations for things to do / experience in the "local area".
Kootenays are home for me and such a special place! One of my favourite things to do is hit up the Lussier/Whiteswan Hot springs. A little off the beaten path, and sooo beautiful.
My new fav business in Cranbrook is Morchella Market. I think everyone should hit up the Kimberley Ski Hill, especially if you're new to skiing, because it's such a great hill for beginners.
Annnnd of course everyone should go to bull river/summer lake in the summer!! Mountain bowl ⛰️
#5 - And, finally… please give one completely unaided recommendation that you think everyone should start doing / using / eating / thinking / quitting / etc-ing to make their lives a little bit more better / bearable (because if it's worked a bit for you, maybe it'll work a bit for someone else).
Manifesting, journaling, affirmations... I put out what I want into the universe and basically trust that the good and amazing things happen to me when I’m living completely in alignment with my true self.
It's a little woo woo, but it's proven to be the most potent thing ever. Staying positive and always believing that you are magnetized to what you believe is for you, never for a second doubting yourself and your dreams.
OK folks, there you have it. Things that Maddisun thinks you should consider incorporating into whatever you get up to during the 9-to-5’s and 5-to-9’s of living, whether you are currently in a mountain town somewhere in the highway 95/a area or not (although, question 4 is pretty ‘specific to this specific region’… so you might need to come swing by HWY 95EH.CA irl to fully experience that tip, eh)!
But before you log off and go start manifesting & affirming, make sure to follow Maddisun on the INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / TWITTER / TIK TOK + also give her latest single ‘All or Nothing’ a listen below:
