2020 has been a shitty year for a lot of different reasons, but music released has not been one of them. So here’s my 10 fave LPs + 5 ace EPs + 1 really big f*cking playlist because 20X20=400 wrap-up for this year of 2020.
Since the week between Christmas and New Years Eve kinda feels like days that don't actually exist, and because I'm currently knee-deep in trying to wrap-up my End Of Year posts for later this week, I figured I would post one more "lost episode" from back in the day when I was making mixes for Folk Radio UK… So here’s EPS 026 from DEC 2013.
Even though I am a rubbish whistler, I still tend to whistle songs every now and again (especially when walking up and down stairs for some reason). Now I know that whistling is pretty annoying to everyone except the person whistling, but F everyone else, right?
Since this Thursday is Christmas Eve, I figured I’d take a one-week hiatus from posting a new mix tapes and instead post another "lost episode" from back in the day when I was making mixes for Folk Radio UK and for a 13 episode stretch mixes were posted on the FRUK Mixcloud instead of on mine. So here’s EPS 025 from NOV 2013.
15 more retro titles that I’d recommend adding to your hacked Sega Mini if you’re an old millennial like me who pretty much stopped playing video games in the late 90s but is now looking to revisit that golden era of gaming with hard-to-impress 2020 glasses on (PS1 + GAME BOY + ATARI + 32x + NEO GEO edition).
A monthly playlist for the Soundcloud-linked submissions that get approved on Submithub for a HI54 Mix CD feature during the month of December 2020.
“Getting older, wiser and living in the now. That's what i get from this amazing body of work.”
“Also howl with reckless abandon when you need to! Maybe while you're riding your bike. Very helpful.”
Episode 169 of The Mix Tape Radio Show features 8 gems shuffled out of the ongoing HI54 Mix CD ‘HIGH FIVE FOR… XMAS’ - ft. JulMat (Julia Rakel & Matilda Wiezell), Roger Miller, Jenn Grant, Vince Guaraldi Trio + a bunch more Christmas-flavoured headphone goodness.
“Haunting and profoundly moving work. One of the most important albums of the 21st century. Makes you feel alone, isolated, confused and aimless. As if you're cluelessly drifting through an empty ballroom from the past, desperately clinging onto the memories you hold dearest before everything expires.”
“Reach out to your homies - make sure they’re doing ok. It’s rough out there and the best thing we can do is stick together <3”
