Here's the 36th instalment of the (mostly) bi-weekly Mixcloud series where I go back to the iTunes organizational system I had setup when I used to run a 24/7 internet radio station, and then I shuffle up a selection of 'Mix Tape Radio approved' tracks and put together an 18-track HI54 Mixed CD.
This playlist is partially made up of the music I spent countless hours listening intently to in the actual 90s and partially made up of a bunch of “discovered after the nineties” 90s music (ie. things I would have liked if we had the internet in the 90s instead of the local area FM radio stations & Columbia House mail orders for new music discovery). |-> OPEN ON SPOTIFY
“This album is a reminder that one can have many different faces and voices, and yet be completely genuine.”
“Closest thing I've found to a Grateful Dead album. And yet, with a totally different sound and direction, but so catchy. Zamrock gold.”
Some music sounds better suited for those times when you're walking around lost in your thoughts, looking for some peace of mind. Maybe it's dusk, maybe it's dawn, maybe it doesn't matter.
I asked a local cocktail lounge if they’d be interested in playing a 54-track hip hop mix cd (aka: a 3hr playlist) and they said ya and then on the first Thursday of March, 2022 at 6:55 pm this playlist was pressed play on. And now you can press play on it whenever/wherever you are.
If we stop trying to think of streaming as a replacement for buying/owning music, and instead focus on making streaming a much better replacement for what FM radio used to provide (ie. finite music discovery that leads to music purchasing) maybe we could get away from trying to figure out how many fractions of a penny every listen should be worth?
A monthly playlist for the Soundcloud-linked submissions that get approved on Submithub for a HI54 Mix CD feature during the month of February 2022.
