#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
Mitski’s “Be the Cowboy.” I love her songwriting, voice and the production on the album. Mitski has this rare ability to write catchy pop melodies that are also interesting and unpredictable.
There’s a lot of hidden complexity in the album. I can listen to it repeatedly and still hear new things. Aaron and I just recently saw her live in Nashville and she was so captivating.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
Rick and Morty. It’s hilarious. Aaron and I can watch it over and over again and it never gets old. “I’m Mr. Meseeks, look at me!”
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
“Origin Story: A Big history of Everything” by David Christian. Definitely recommended if you like history.
It’s gives a broad overview of the history of the universe. If the timeline were a 24 hour clock, humans have only been around for 1.5 seconds! Blows my mind.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
The voice memo app. It’s how we remember all of our song ideas when we’re out and about.
When I was growing up I would carry around a voice recorder like a private investigator. No more of that!
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Aaron and I both started meditating 10-15 minutes every day. Highly recommended.
I feel so much more settled and clear-headed when I start the day off meditating. I’m very aware of how old I sound when I write this.
OK folks, there you have it. Things that Frederick The Younger thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off to go meditate (ps - I also highly recommend this) make sure to follow Frederick The Younger on the Facebook / Twitter / Instagram and then jump over to their Bandcamp page to fill your ears up on some FtY groove pop.
