ARCHIVES | MIX TAPE RADIO on FRUK - EPISODE 020
There was a power outage in my little mountain town last weekend & it fried my 2009 iMac — which sucks extra much because my 2009 iMac is what I use for almost everything I do online (including all the parts & programs I use to make Mix Tape Radio episodes). The fingers-crossed-good-news is that I might be able to get things fixed & hopefully nothing has been lost… but I won't know for sure / have my ol' Mac back until sometime next week :(
Which had me wondering about how I would create/post Mix Tape Radio episodes until then (as I’ve been on a streak of posting one-a-week for almost a year now)… and then I remembered that waaaay back in the day, when I was making mix tapes for Folk Radio UK, there was a 13 episode stretch where MTR episodes got posted on the FRUK Mixcloud page instead of the HI54LOFI one (because they had waaay more followers/listeners). Which means those 13 episodes don't currently exist on my own Mixcloud page — which means I just had an idea.
Let's turn lemons into lemonade and take the headphones back about 6 years while I repost some old MTR Episodes (episodes 020 to 032 to be exact) over the next week or so while I wait for my 2009 iMac to come back from computer hospital — so how about we press play on EPISODE 020 (which was originally posted back in the much more innocent times of July 2013)…
…and then fingers-crossed I will get my ol’ Mac back in perfect working condition & can start knocking out new episodes again soon-ish (but that doesn’t mean these “old” tracks aren’t worth checking out further until then - good music don’t expire).

If you find your ears enjoying what they’re hearing, there’s some pretty decent odds that following HI54LOFI over on Mixcloud for future/more episodes would not be the worst use of one of your internet clicks today (new episodes will return on the weekly once I get my iMac fixed, but the bakers dozen of old episodes I’ll be posting over the next week are still pretty sweet to listen to too).
And if you ever want to shuffle thru every track that’s ever been played on an MTR episode (well, all the tracks currently available on Spotify – which is still A LOT) you can do so at anytime OVER HERE +++++ PLUS, if you’d like to extend the ‘soundtrack-by-mixtape’ vibes all day, I hi54lofi-ly recommend you go press the play button over on MOUN.TOWN/AM (which is a mountain town “collaboration” project I am currently doing with myself — but more importantly it’ll play one HI54 mix tape after another all day for you once you press play).
ALSO also: HI54LOFI was accepted into the Mixcloud Select program a little while ago, which means you can now support the making of these mix tapes & the artists included on them with a monthly subscription — if you’d be interested in something like that (or nobody would be mad at you if you’d prefer to make a one-time “thanks for the stuff” donation of your choice to HI54LOFI over here instead, or even if you just told someone else that they might like what they’d find over on the ol’ HI54.BLOG… that stuff helps too!).
And, final finally… if you hear something you like in this episode (or just in general out on the internets today), make sure to check out the people making the stuff you like out further and show them a little bit of love / support / appreciation (in whatever ways you can) — because everybody wins if we all start sharing some more metaphorical coffees/beers/cheers with the people making the things that make things a little bit better (and maybe start giving a little less to the people out there trying to keep things shitty). Every little bit counts.
