“incapable of writing a bad song - greatest living american rocknroll band”
This isn’t a competition. It’s a collaboration.
SO MANY CAROLINES | #HI54MIXCDS
There are a lot of songs written about Carolines. To be honest, the amount feels disproportionate to the amount of actual Carolines I have met in real life. But some names just roll off the tongue better than others I guess.
FANDCAMP: That Bridge Washed Away In The Storm
“great discovery - please make more music. Love the chill, folksy, in-the-woods vibe”
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ JOHN THAYER
"Essentially the big rudder is unable to turn as the force is too great, so the role of the trim tab is to make a smaller directional change which then allows the main rudder to turn. We're all trim tabs, we're all capable of turning society into a more progressive, compassionate direction."
HI54… GUEST MIX W/ TOM FROM FROG
“When Napster was a thing, I used it to collect these songs on my parent's computer. I played them loud and flung myself around the basement until dinner was ready. I can't claim to have been a part of a community that listened to this music in a group setting, so I guess thats what I want to do now…”
SubmitCloud | December 2018
The Soundcloud playlist for this month’s approved Submithub submissions is now up & running for December 2018.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ DANIEL ISAIAH
"Rub it in your hair, rub it on your skin, rub it on your friends"
2 MINUTES OR LESS | #HI54MIXCDS
Sometimes you’re in a hurry and only have 2 minutes or less to get a song down your ears before you have to get back to work. Well, this playlist is chock-full of quick headphones fixes like that.
Fandcamp: WARM
“Love this new album from Jeff Tweedy. It has the melodic simplicity and catchiness of Uncle Tupelo and Wilco's early records, but with songwriting by a seasoned hand, someone who is emerging on the other side of middle age -- kids raised and out of the house, distractions receding, and existential questions front-and-center.”
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ ANNA TIVEL
"Try to get a bag that’s only half full, or else you run the risk of eating the whole thing at once and feeling quite ill, like a bottle of wine without the fun."
CHANGES | #HI54MIXTAPES
I made this mix tape around 2011, which was around the time I was quitting a stable market research job to head back over to Europe without any plan or career path. I guess one could make the argument that I’m still on the same bullshit all these years later.
