HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ TUMMYACHE
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
I would recommend ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’ by Thom Yorke. Not only is it sonically amazing, the lyrics are vague and lack directness, which allows people to assign their own meaning.
That album is so good I even have the album artwork tattooed on myself.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
I really enjoyed this danish crime show by Netflix called “Quicksand”. It is centered around a teenage girl who was involved in an abusive relationship that ended up leading to a school shooting.
The cinematography is so beautiful, and their scenes where they simulate drug use really tripped me out!
#3. I (and by “I” I mean “whoever is reading this”) am going to the local book store (ok, maybe the local library first) to find the very next book that I will be putting some valuable ‘me-time' aside for. Which book would you get, if you were me (and, I suppose, you hadn’t already read what you’re about to suggest)?
I would highly recommend the book “The Year of Endless Sorrows” by Adam Rapp. It’s a funny story how I found out about this book actually. I was walking on the street in New York, and just saw it on the ground. I liked the cover, so I decided to take it home and read it and it is some of the most beautiful descriptions of New York I’ve ever read. It is very visceral writing.
Also, Adam befriended me online and now I get to (hopefully) see his new books as they come out!
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
There’s a video of a kid trying to become Super Saiyan and the entire video makes me laugh hysterically.
If that were to disappear from the internet, I would be very saddened.
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
I would recommend finding something that you enjoy outside of your career or passion. For example, I reached a point where everything in my life revolved around music. Which, in theory, is great; however, I would find myself very unsatisfied should I not be doing anything music related.
So I’ve picked up some hobbies, like playing basketball, and watching Netflix, and cooking, etc. Being a whole person, not just pieces of one.
