* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Carlos Morales, The Phonometrician — a Composer / Sound Designer from California whose beautiful new album ‘Mnemosyne’ is officially out on Lost Tribe Sound May 31 (and you can catch the track ‘Chloe’ on the HI54 Mix CD ‘STOP TALKING… I’M TRYING TO THINK’).

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

Suspiria Score, written by Thom Yorke.

I watched the original movie from the 70s and it was quite shocking. When I heard they were making a remake and that Thom York would be scoring it, I knew I had to listen to it immediately. It did not disappoint. It is a very special album filled with ambiences and subtleties in which you discover something new every time you listen to it.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

Love Death Robots was a very pleasant surprise.

I was reluctant to watch it, but my friends kept insisting that I should watch it. My brother told me it was similar to Animatrix in which every little short was made by a different studio/artist. And so I decided to give it a chance. There were only one or two episodes I did not enjoy, but the rest was pure gold. I highly recommend it.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

I am not up to date with the latest book releases, so my recommendation for this one is going to have to be from my (very, very long) backlog. I love Edgar Allan Poe, and I get my hands on anything and everything I can from him.

If for some strange reason you haven’t read anything from him, I highly recommend you stop doing what ever it is you are doing and run to the bookstore and get a collection of his stories, you will not regret it.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

I really don’t have an internet/App recommendation per say. I am kind of an old school guy so I don’t delve too much in the cyberspace. There is however a website in which I have discovered some of my favorite bands/musicians, called A Closer Listen.

I absolutely love that site.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

If there is something that I would recommend to all of you, my friends, is something that I am trying to do myself as well, and that is getting enough sleep and rest. As a musician, and night crawling creative person, I have deprived myself of sleep for most of my adult life, and now it is taking its toll.

I cannot stress enough the importance of sleeping, so please, my friends, if you are also a night crawler and believe that you will be more productive, creative by not sleeping well or having an “all nighter” to finish work, think again.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that The Phonometrician thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go back to sleep, make sure to follow The Phonometrician on the Facebook / Instagram and then also give ‘Chloe’ a listen below…

…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further phonometrician-flavoured audio exploring over on the Bandcamp / Soundcloud.
