HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ FINE POINTS
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
Mulatu of Ethiopia. This dude is the father of Ethiopian Jazz music.
Stumbled on the LP at a record shop in Oakland and haven’t looked back. Put this on and do some dishes or fold laundry. Vibraphone and conga jams for days.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
The Sopranos. I’m always surprised by folks that have declined to watch this series.
You kinda have to watch it from front to back because the last episode is a masterpiece. Can I get some Macaroni and gravy? Marone...
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art by Stephen Nachmanovitch. This one is for all the ‘creative’ nerds out there (me.)
Improvising and making music or art is transformative and this book does a great job of detailing that process. It has encouraged me to be true to myself and tap into the mystical crap that we all have inside of us.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
I guess my internet recommendation would be to not use the internet. Try throwing a frisbee with a friend or eating a peach.
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Mexican cuisine is heaven to me. An authentic bowl of pozole rojo or el pastor tacos can change your life.
If you get a chance, go to La Casita in East Oakland and order the chilaquilles. Tell them I sent you.
OK folks, there you have it. Things that Fine Points think you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and start planning a road trip to Oakland for some authentic Mexican food, make sure to follow Fine Points on Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and go give their new LP a listen over on Bandcamp.
