* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Fair Mothers— a music-maker out of Scotland who has a lovely new album out on Song, By Toad Records called ‘In Monochrome’ (and you can hear the track ‘Monochrome’ on the HI54 Mix CD ‘High Five For… Winter’).

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

The new EP of covers that Dana Gavanski has been releasing one song at a time.

I’m sure the future releases will be just as… classic? But, just in case, to absolutely seal it, I hope she will include Observatory Crest by Captain Beefheart. When I first heard it I thought it was Nick Cave covering Beefheart. But it is Beefheart. I don’t really know why but I think Dana would transport the song even higher.

In fact, the song is probably about Beefheart’s summer evening in California with prior incarnation Dana. So it’s appropriate that she now tells the story from her point of view. I don’t know why I’ve got that daft idea so firmly lodged.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media. It’s about Ed Herman and Noam Chomsky’s propaganda model of the media.

Why watch it? Black-belt intellectual self-defence.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

The Illuminatis Trilogy, by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson.

But only if you’re interested in finding out which Me felt the need for time to be set-aside for it.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

At the moment, that would have to be the Tweedy Show, which is live on Instagram at 3am UK time or 9pm CET, a few nights a week, and is then archived in Youtube on Susie Tweedy’s channel.

I started watching it a few episodes in, it’s fly on the wall, recorded by Susie in their home while they (the Tweedy’s) round off their day together. It’s looking in a mirror at humans with healthy beings who give a fuck.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Your own life is just as it needs to be, how could it not be. So forget about that, and try to make other people’s lives better.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Fair Mothers thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go try to make someone else’s life a bit better, make sure to follow Fair Mothers on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give ‘Monochrome’ a listen below…

…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further fair-mothers-flavoured audio exploring over on the Bandcamp / Spotify.
