HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ DAY JOY
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
I've been really digging Faye Webster's new album, Atlanta Millionaires Club. It's catchy and somber with a child-like simplicity in the lyrics.
The album also has a special place in my heart because I used to tour with the pedal steel player featured on the record.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
I've really enjoyed the Showtime series, The Chi. It's raw, has great characters, and features good music.
The creators do a great job at building multiple story lines while drawing you to invest emotionally in a variety of characters in drastically different circumstances.
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
I don't read a lot of fiction in my adult life but I do have a long list of must-read fiction from my earlier years. Lately, I'm more into religious, scientific, and philosophical literature. If I were to recommend a book to a total stranger, I would implore them to explore the world of psychedelics, contemporary shamanism, and psychonautics.
A great book to start with is Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception or Daniel Pinchbeck's Breaking Open The Head.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
I'm going to reveal myself as a nerd, but I'm really into Lumosity. It's an app/game that helps you develop cognitively in various domains.
Basically, you start by taking a cognitive aptitude test to figure out where you stand. Then the app analyzes your strengths and weaknesses and offers you puzzles, games, etc to help you improve. It's fun and quite addictive. And no, they aren't paying me.
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Try to take as much responsibility as you can in life. Be honest with yourself and start as small as you must. Don't waste your time comparing yourself to others. Remember that the race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself.
…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further day-joy-flavoured audio exploring over on the Spotify / Soundcloud.
