HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ DANBERT NOBACON OF CHUMBAWAMBA

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ DANBERT NOBACON OF CHUMBAWAMBA

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Danbert Nobacon (of Chumbawamba) — AND — providing the Q’s to Danbert in a new collaboration thing we’re trying is Cole from smallsongs, who recently recorded a lovely live session with Danbert at a flea market in Denver!

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

I had the pleasure recently of being invited to record on a new Sarah and The Safe Word album (out next year) so am enjoying their prior work especially tunes like ‘Sick on Seventh Street’ and ‘When Oskar Fische Comes to Town’:

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

Am halfway through “Severance” right now on Apple TV and am hooked ... it conjures up the sheer creepiness of ideas around implanting humans and manages to throw in some achingly bizarre humor at the same time.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Am reading “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis, a novel published in 1935, the title alluding to the complacency that fascism could not happen in America in the thirties, as it was happening in Europe. Lewis is amazingly insightful and much of it could be written about today. Scary as we are closer to fascism now than the US was in 1935.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

TYT.com on youtube ... my (weekdays) dose of the news which actually questions the corruption at the dark heart of American politics and takes to task the corporate power brokers and enablers, rather than rolling out the red carpet for them as the mainstream corporate media does.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Fermenting. I have become a fermenting nut since the pandemic, and I have a small garden and things are just starting to come to fruition right now, so as well as enjoying fresh from the ground, I ferment... I had no idea it was so easy and cheap ... and the experimentation possibilities are limitless.

I do kimchi and whatever veg is around, and even have one on the go right now that is fermented purslane ( a ‘weed’ from my yard) ... fermented kale (definitely an acquired taste) but once you get the taste oh boy ... and elderflowers from my yard in a fermented soda to name a few. Here’s a great book on the subject!

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Danbert Nobcaon thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go start looking for things to ferment, make sure to follow Danbert on the Facebook / Instagram and then also give the smallsongs session that Danbert recently did in Denver a gander below…

…and if you’re liking what you’re hearing, go do some further Danbert-Nobcaon-flavoured exploring over on the Bandcamp / Youtube AND THEN definitely go give smallsongs a follow on the Youtube and Instagram, as this lovely session is just one of many, MANY more!
