HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ CALEB ELLIOTT

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ CALEB ELLIOTT

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Caleb Elliott — a music-maker out of Louisiana who recently dropped a lovely album called ‘Weed, Wine & Time (and you can catch the wonderful title track on the HI54 Mix CD ‘MOUNTOWN LIFE’)

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

If you’ve never listened to Bobby Charles self-titled album, stop what you’re doing and go listen to it right now. Produced by Rick Danko with contributors Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Dr John and Amos Garrett…this album is special. “Street People”, “Small Town Talk”, “I Must Be In A Good Place Now” and “ Tennessee Blues" are some of my favorites. I always come back to this record.

I also really love Twain's 2017 release, “Rare Feeling”. It’s another album that I always find myself coming back to.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

My girlfriend and I really love sci-fi and fantasy shows. One of our recent favorites is Altered Carbon. It ran for two glorious seasons and was unfortunately canceled.

If sci-fi/fantasy isn’t your thing, don’t sleep on Ted Lasso!

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Oh man, I've become a bit of an audiobook fiend over the last few years. I don’t think I’ll be able to pick just one, so here are a few of my recent favs: “No Country For Old Men” by Cormac McCarthy, “Breakfast of Champions” by Kurt Vonnegut, “Liberation Day” by George Saunders and “The Stories of Breece D’J Pancake” by Breece D’J Pancake.

The last two are short stories, so if that’s your jam… highly recommend!

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Well, as I mentioned earlier, I’ve become an audiobook guy. It’s not for everyone, but some of us listen faster than they read lol. If you haven’t tried it out, give it a shot. It’s been a game changer for me.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

COOK CAJUN FOOD! I’m a Louisiana native now living in North Alabama. When I moved here I hadn't done much cooking at that point in my life. I realized if I wanted to have my home-state favorites whenever I craved them I would need to learn to make them myself. Jambalaya, Gumbo, Red Beans n Rice, Dirty Rice, Crawfish Monica…they are all delicious and surprisingly easy to make. (Disclaimer: Gumbo does take a while to make, but it’s worth it!)

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Caleb Elliott think you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go cook up some cajun food, make sure to follow Caleb on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give ‘Weed, Wine & Time’ a listen below…

…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further caleb-elliott-flavoured audio exploring over on the Bandcamp / Spotify.
