HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ BELAVER
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
I highly recommend becoming addicted to “Everyday, I Don’t” by Anna Domino.
This song burrows a hole into your brain and makes itself a little home, relieving itself inside your consciousness with excretions of an addictive peaceful sadness.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
I recently enjoyed “Sorry to bother you”, it’s very rare to see a new movie that manages to have a strong message while being funny and unexpected.
Many people only gathered from the trailer that this movie is about a telemarketer using his “white voice”, but it is actually about so much more. It perfectly depicts a believable modern day dystopia with hints of the dark surreal and loaded with important political and social commentary.
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
David Sedaris "Theft by Finding: Diaries (1977–2002)” was very entertaining. He does a nice job of capturing the humor of banal Americana.
I was an IHOP waiter as a teenager so I could really relate to the conversations overheard at IHOP.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
Onelook.com is a great internet thing, it’s very powerful and quite the help when you’re at a loss for words, as I often am.
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Ride a bike daily. Besides being a very efficient and fun form of transportation, it also provides the much needed benefit of improved mental health through exercise.
