HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ JACK STANSBURY
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?.
Butterglory’s record Crumble released by Merge in 1994. Matt Suggs and Debbie Vander Wall. Perfect sound.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
The Lobster. I laughed, I cried! Every actor involved is great, and the storyline/dialogue is constantly funny but soaked in sadness. Can’t think of a better film that’s come out in a long time.
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
David Berman’s book of poetry Actual Air. I hope he releases another book of poetry someday, but for right now we can at least be thankful for this collection. A lot of the lines just cut through so sharp and clear, a beautiful American writer.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
The online movie review series On Cinema hosted by Gregg Turkington and Tim Heidecker. They’re always going to shoot you straight with their opinions on the latest releases, and it’s been interesting to watch their own personalities clash on screen.
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Quit using Facebook. I did and I’m loving it. Seriously, it is awful and a huge waste of time. It seemed like people were using it as some sort of mental health release or as a way to learn about political issues. It is not a useful or healthy source for either of those pursuits.
