HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ LEATHER APRON REVIVAL

Q&A done Jan 2022 (but updated with new live show info)

* Providing the A’s to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Leather Apron Revival (and, if you like getting specific, it’s ‘Jeff the drummer from LAR’ dropping off the A’s today, eh) — they’re a trio of music-makers out of Kimberley, BC who have a new album called ‘Light & Shadow’ out now (and you can hear a track off the album in the MOUN.TOWN/FM mix cd ‘THE KOOTENAY 95, EH’ + Leather Apron Revival will be playing 2 hometown shows at Centre 64 on December 16th & 17th and you can GET TICKETS HERE ).

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

I’ve got to provide a couple musical recommendations because one is just too hard!

JJ Cale Naturally – debut album from this legendary and influential artist came out 50 years ago last month!

Adele 30 – c’mon. How can you not? Really enjoying the subtle melodic grooves on a lot of the tracks.

Hiss Golden Messenger – anything but my personal fav is Heart Like a Levee. Hiss has a new release out that’s pretty far out man.

Heart Like a Levee by Hiss Golden Messenger

For a feel good music/video experience, check out Tuesday Morning Coffee with Skratch Bastid for a fun loving hip hop experience. I really love what a good vibe this livestream/recording is and how people across the globe can interact with the set over Youtube chat. Dude’s got it going on.

#2 - What is the one movie or tv show that you think should be next in everybody’s Netflix queue (ok, doesn’t have to be Netflix, we’re all internet adults here and know how to find anything online, one way or another)?

The X-Files and Seinfeld, Downton Abbey. Get weird, laugh it up hard, then keep it classy. In that order.

#3 - I (and by “I” I mean “whoever is reading this”) am going to the local book store (ok, maybe the local library / used bookstore first) to find the very next book that I will be putting some valuable ‘me-time' aside for. Which book would you get, if you were me (and, I suppose, you hadn’t already read what you’re about to suggest)?

Natchez Burning by Greg Iles – I just finished this book and I couldn’t put it down. It was disruptively good. And it’s book 1 of a trilogy, so… you’re welcome.

#4 - If someone were coming to visit the Kimberley/Cranbrook/Kootenays area, what would be your top recommendations for things they should do and/or places they should visit?

Get outside and in the:

• Spring- hike the butte, Marysville Falls.

• Summer- mountain bike Round the Mountain, hike into Bear Lake.

• Fall- Fairmont Hot springs, enjoy the larches in the St. Mary Valley and anywhere around really.

• Winter- skiing at Kimberley Alpine Resort.

#5 - And, finally… please give one completely unaided recommendation that you think everyone should start doing / using / watching / eating / thinking / quitting / etc-ing to make their lives a little bit more better / bearable.

Well, I’m not sure I’m entitled to answer this, but I would say do something nice for someone this holiday season, this winter or anytime. Do what you can to make a positive impact in your community. Smile, give out lots of high fives and whatever you’re doing, leave it a little better than you got it.

Also, Dad Jokes. Lots of Dad Jokes.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Leather Apron Revival (via “drummer Jeff”) thinks you should consider incorporating into whatever you get up to during the 9-to-5’s and 5-to-9’s of living, whether you are currently in a mountown off highway 95eh, or not (although, question 4 is pretty regionally specific, so you might need to come swing by the Kootenays to take those tips, eh).

.

So, before you log off and go start handing out high fives & dad jokes & positivity around your neighbourhood, make sure to follow Leather Apron Revival on the INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / Twitter and then also give a listen/watch to LAR’s locally made music video ‘8 Years Free’ below:

…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further leather-apron-revival-flavoured audio exploring over on the Spotify / Youtube. Also… Leather Apron Revival will be playing 2 hometown shows at Centre 64 on December 16th & 17th, 2022 and you can snag some tickets here before they’re gone!
