(Mostly) GONE FISHIN' | June 2022

In order to free up some extra time & headspace to try and figure out what kind of changes I need to make to multiple websites/ideas (all of which don’t really generate income, which adds extra complications & considerations), especially now that we seem to be “officially” coming out of the 2+ year GLOBAL PANDEMIC in an ‘everybody return to normal’ kind of way, I’ve decided to put a few more of my ongoing music blog tasks on pause (to go along with the much bigger ‘pause button’ that was pushed back when I stopped accepting music submissions altogether back in March). Because, as it keeps turning out, it’s hard to think about new ways of doing things differently if you keep finding yourself having to first take care of recurring tasks A, B, and Zzzzz… oh great now I don’t have anymore time and/or headspace left for the other stuff I know I need to get around to!

Side bar: Is spending time working on work that no one pays you for a form of procrastination or revolution? What if your “chop wood, carry water” doesn’t monetize? I can also haz cheezburger?

So, with all that in mind, I am going to hit the brakes on my weekly updated YOUR WEEKLY 9(to)5 EH playlist + I am also going to take a break on my ‘NEW Mixcloud mix EVERY Thursday’ routine. And then, hopefully, I’ll have enough extra time & headspace available to better stay focused on figuring out what makes sense to try and keep doing with all that stuff and all this stuff and all the rest of it going forward, all things considered (which, it turns out, is a lot of things).

And since I need to make a decision about one of my website renewals by June 23rd, how about … *pretends to look for calendar and then remembers that he forgot to get a 2022 desk calendar irl* … yeah, how about we pencil this in as a “let’s revisit around June 23rd, 2022” thing and then I’m gonna go metaphorically pop a Gone Fishin’ original movie soundtrack into the CD player and go get to work on thinkin’ ‘bout makin’ changes (aka: fishin’) 👍

Y’know, it’s a bit like that scene in the 1997 film Gone Fishin’ starring Joe Pesci and Danny Glover, the scene where they do that thing and say the name of the movie in the movie — oh, they do that multiple times? in the trailer even?— ok, well, maybe it’s not like a scene in Gone Fishin’ at all. To be honest, I haven’t actually seen the film (I also don’t have the soundtrack on CD, I just saw the image when googlin’ for writing inspiration and, for some reason, it felt like it had the right vision board energy that I was looking for, AND, for other hard-to-pin-down reasons, it still feels that way).

I guess I like to imagine there’s a scene where Joe Pesci causes some mayhem with his usual antics and Danny Glover gives him that “I’m too old for this shit” look and Joe Pesci gives him that “I know, but we’re gone fishin’ pal” look and then they both get that look in their eyes that says to the audience: even though things may not have gone the way they were planning when they first decided to “go fishing”, things seemed to have worked out just the way they were supposed to in the end, and ain’t that just the god damn way — and then Danny turns to the camera, tears in EVERYONE’s eyes at this point fyi, and he says…
