HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ WOOZLES
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
I would absolutely recommend listening to the song “Waving” by Tiny Deserts. This band is the musical project of one of my best friends, Will McGovern. Right now “Waving” is the only single released on Spotify, but I have the leak of the entire album and it’s one of the most beautiful records I have ever heard.
Before making music as Tiny Deserts he also used to release music as Flossy Clouds and all of those songs are 100% worth checking out too. Basically, I can’t say enough good things about Will and his music!
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
I realize this is a lame answer, but to be honest I don’t watch a ton of stuff! Recently though, my friend made me watch a few episodes of this show “Terrace House” which is a Japanese reality show. It’s basically a show about…nothing, but for some reason it’s actually incredibly entertaining?
There’s something about the extremely slow pace of it that I love, as well as the fact that having to read subtitles makes me focus on the show instead of getting distracted with other things. If you’re looking for incredibly awkward and “real” interactions between strangers learning to live with each other, then this is the show for you.
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
I absolutely recommend the poetry collection “Devotions” by Mary Oliver! My darkest secret is that I’m an English major with a concentration in poetry (lmao), so I read a lot of poetry and Mary Oliver is my all-time favorite poet. She has such an incredible way of making these minuscule moments in nature and everyday life take on such a bigger meaning, while still using easy to understand language. Her poems have helped me through some really low moments and always provide a big spark of inspiration.
Basically, this is the book that’s always on my nightstand and the one I keep coming back to when I need it the most.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
A while ago my friend sent me this Instagram account called @cheapoldhouses that I’ve kind of fallen in love with. They post a ton of old houses that are for sale around the world with lots of beautiful pictures accompanying them.
It’s a nice way to daydream about maybe one day being able to fix up or own a place like the ones they post!
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Read (and write) more poetry! I feel like poetry can sometimes be looked on negatively, especially since I think a lot of people see it as something kind of pretentious, but it’s actually so lovely!
I definitely recommend finding some literary journals and small publishing houses to subscribe to or follow. Reading a handful of poems is such a nice way to begin and end the day, since it usually gets me thinking about all kinds of things that would have otherwise never crossed my mind. Poetry heals my heart on a daily basis!
OK folks, there you have it. Things that Woozles thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go write a poem, make sure to follow Woozles on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then a give ‘trail of my blood’ (off the legally embattled ‘kidz bopz vol. 666’) a listen below…
…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further woozles-flavoured audio exploring over on the Bandcamp / Spotify.
