HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ ÜUCE & ARTTU SILVAST

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Arttu Silvast & ÜUCE — a music making collaboration between two music-makers from different continents, perhaps that’s why their lovely new single is called ‘sea / boat / water’ (and you can also catch that track on the HI54 Mix CD ‘STOP TALKING… I’M TRYING TO THINK’)

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

ÜUCE: I can't stop watching and listening to "Bo Burnham: Inside".

It's a Netflix special that centers around a main character that is seemingly stuck inside a house over the course of the pandemic. It starts off super cheesy and kind of immature (but funny nonetheless), but as it matures, gets pretty heavy. He dives into a lot of concepts; social issues, mental health issues, and suicide. The track I can't stop singing to myself is "Look Who's Inside Again."

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

ARTTU SILVAST: There are many, but if I have to choose one I watched recently, I think everyone should watch The Lighthouse at least once.

The odd and claustrophobic film really sucks you into its world so hard you almost start to smell the seawater, alcohol, pipe tobacco and the dead fish around you. Even if the script might feel distant, the film is a masterpiece thanks to its totally unique atmosphere and the main characters, played by William Dafoe and Robbert Pattison.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

ÜUCE: My brother recently told me about a book called "Leave Society" by Tao Lin. I haven't looked into it in any great detail, but apparently the book (or at least part of it) is about the value of disconnecting from social media and the importance of understanding and appreciating yourself outside of the lens of a "thumbs up" or a "like".

From what I was told, there's a lot in there. Maybe that's what I'll do after this!

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

ARTTU SILVAST: It would definitely be Wikipedia. I understand this might be a bit of a boring answer.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

ÜUCE: I think I'm speaking to myself more than everyone else, but stop worrying. Control the things that you can, but don't let the world get you down. There's still hope, and it's important to hold on to that hope.

ARTTU SILVAST: I think everyone should adopt a dog if they have the chance!

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Arttu Silvast & ÜUCE think you should consider incorporating into your day/life.
