HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ THE MAN FROM MANAGRA
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
I’m not too good at keeping up to date with latest releases (is any musician good at it?) but the one record I keep going back to is “Sound and Color” by the Alabama Shakes, an amazing record in every respect.
Great songs, excellent performances and an amazing, bold production. What is there not to adore?
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
I am shamelessly advertising a friend’s film here (who needs no promotion from me!), but seriously, Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favorite” is a film I have so far seen twice and will definitely see again.
It has a strong identity and style, a thing quite hard to find lately, it somehow has the fabric of classic timeless films of the 70s, but definitely a modern film too.
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
If you are into music, whether you are a musician or just a music lover, you should read “Sound Man” by Glyn Johns. Read amazing behind the scenes stories from the man behind the mixer for the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and countless other artists.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
Google.com (also, while you are there try googling “The Man From Managra”)
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Walk more often, alone. Go on a trip with your loved one(s) and don’t take your laptop with you. Breathe deep, acknowledge this is now and that it will not last forever.
OK folks, there you have it. Things that The Man From Managra thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go take a walk by yourself, make sure to follow The Man From Managra on the Facebook & Instagram and then give a listen to ‘Set Sail’ off the new record…
…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further managra-flavoured audio exploring over on the Bandcamp / Spotify.
