HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ SOPHIE NICOLE ELLISON (HUSSY)

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Sophie Nicole Ellison (aka HUSSY): a singing-songing multi-instrumentalist from south London whose ‘Slayer/Playtime’ EP dropped on Bandcamp recently and you should make a note to stick it in your headphones right after you get thru the recs below. Recently featured on the ‘U…KAY?’ mix cd.

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

I’m really loving a band called ‘Mothers’ right now and their new album ‘Render Another Ugly Method’. Its the project of Kristine Leschper. My favourite songs are ‘Blame Kit’, ‘Beauty Routine’ and ‘Pink’.

And Lala Lala and Ian Sweet who I follow have new music out I've been loving recently.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

TV show I’d say Bojack Horseman. I’m a big fan so I’d definitely say that.

It’s gets quite dark and is a whacky adult cartoon with animals as people. My favourite characters are Diane and Princess Carolyn who are brilliant and Todd is adorable! I watched the whole last series in a binge on a flight recently.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys’ by Viv Albertine is so great. I read it all at once when it came out.

She talks really well about the feelings of when the Slits broke up which I could relate to having been in a band when I was younger. But then how she finds new directions is really inspiring and the fling with Vincent Gallo. He’s made one of my favourite films ‘Buffalo 66’ so that was brilliant. I just thought her narrative from a women’s perspective on that was great.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Just google! Being able to research anything and find things outside of your environment and immediate surroundings is great. Internet was basically non existent where I grew up so I’m still appreciating it haha.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

I guess something super simple but overrated, like allowing yourself to be true to your feelings and yourself. I have a habit of wanting to please other people and say yes to everything but it’s ok to put your self first and say no to things sometimes.

Try and do something positive for yourself everyday to feel good. Finding something to help process your thoughts and work through them.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Sophie Nicole Ellison from HUSSY thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go find something to help process your thoughts, make sure to follow HUSSY on the Facebook / Twitter / Instagram and jump over to Soundcloud to give some headphone time to some HUSSY tunes.
