HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ SARA RENBERG
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
I'm super obsessed with this record "Other Cities, Other Girls" by Long Beach band Katie the Pest.
Dreamy indie rock that moves in and out of English and French, great lyrics. It was recorded in '07 but not released until '14 and it kills me that something so perfect was almost lost.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
Slings & Arrows is an early aughts Canadian mini-series about a Shakespearian theatre festival. Each season revolves around a different play; the seasons are only six episodes long and there's only three of them.
It's got everything: Backstage drama where people say "Sorry" a lot! Ghosts! A young Rachel McAdams (before she got too famous and had to be written out)! The entire thing just became available on Youtube so I'm making my way through it again (for like, the tenth time).
3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
I haven't finished this yet but am super into The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker, as I am a sucker for literary novels about female friendship.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
The internet is constantly dying, which is sad. One thing I am secretly addicted to is advice columns, and my favorite one is Captain Awkward.
Once I wrote in and got a question answered, and it was VERY thrilling. (The advice was also excellent.)
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
It's okay to take gummy versions of your vitamins!! It turns taking care of yourself into a little treat.
OK folks, there you have it. Things that Sara Renberg thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off to go trade in your unchill pill vitamins for some yummy gummy alternatives, go follow Sara on Twitter & Facebook and then go dig into that great new album.
