HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ RAVELOE

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Raveloe— a music-maker out of Glascow who is dropping a lovely album called ‘Exit Light’ in November (and you can catch the track ‘Rustle In The Leaves’ on the HI54 Mix CD ‘U… KAY?’)

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

The album This Rock by Jill Lorean, it is visceral beauty wrapped in untamed magic, with Jill's soaring, powerful voice, hypnotic guitar lines, driving bass and carnal drums it will sweep you up and take you away.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

Inside No. 9 is great, each episode stands alone as a short story, it's dark comedy and there are lots of seasons (I haven't watched them all yet). I like that you can dip in and out and the writing is really good.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, it's filled with rich imagery, magical realism and poignant political messages (it was banned when first published in Russia) wrapped in wonder and brilliant story telling and had me completely enveloped from the very beginning.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Emojis, I'm not particularly clued up about them and what they all stand for but the otter and the moon are just very joyful, and there's loads of nice wee nature ones I like.

I also like youtube (maybe it's cheating to say another thing) but I like watching videos of folk making tiny things, or building stuff as well as music things.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Find your own little rituals and totems. I've started embroidering and I find it good to have an activity that I can find meditative and calming.

I have a black onxy necklace, I don't take off, it's meant to be for protection and some part of me believes it.

Ok folks, there you have it. Things that Raveloe thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go find your own ritual/totem, make sure to follow Raveloe on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give ‘Rustle In The Leaves’ a listen below…

…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further raveloe-flavoured audio exploring over on the Bandcamp / Spotify.
