HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ KEVIN ORR FROM ROMEO MOON
#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?
Please go and have a listen to a record by Brisbane band, Twin Haus. The EP is called ‘Nothing Lavish’. It’s an incredible piece of music from start to finish.
If I could have two recommendations, I would urge you to go listen to a band called BEAK> as well, if you haven’t experienced them just yet, you are in for a treat.
#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?
If you are after something a little humorous and different check out ‘One Punch Man’. My brother switched me on to this and I resisted for a little while as it seemed ridiculous.
The humour is quite subtle but I rather enjoy its philosophy and uniqueness of its story, all presented in a fun animation.
#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?
A book that has really stuck with me has been ‘The Tibetan Book Of Living And Dying’ by Sogyal Rinponche. An incredible read on life, death, ego and our attachments to said ego. I found it a hard read on the first round but it’s delivered with some beautifully poetic stories throughout.
I’m currently reading a Science Fiction novel called ‘A Fire Upon The Deep’ by Vernor Vinge. What I have read so far has been amazingly visual and intriguing. A talk on artificial intelligence by Dr Ben Goertzel led me to this book. I find the idea of how we are implementing A.I. in our modern life super interesting.
#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?
I would be extremely upset if Bandcamp were to disappear. I spend hours digging to find new music on there.
I love being able to support artists and that platform directly too.
#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.
Go and do that ‘thing’ that you have always wanted to do. Make the time and try to enjoy the process.
OK folks, there you have it. Things that Kevin Orr from Romeo Moon thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go do YOUR thing, make sure to follow Romeo Moon on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give ‘Circling’ a listen below…
…and if you like what you’re hearing, go do some further romeo-moon-flavoured audio exploring over on the Bandcamp / Spotify.
