HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ HAWKSLEY WORKMAN

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Hawksley Workman — a Canadian singer-songer whose name 80% of Canadians of a certain age will tell you, “yeah, I know that name”, who also has a new single out called ‘Lazy’, which reminds me that I would be lazy if I also didn’t mention that ‘Safe & Sound’ still gets heavy air play in my headphones since first discovering ‘For Him and The Girls’ at the Edmonton Public Library in the early aughts. #1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

I’d say everyone should listen to Laurie Anderson "Mister Heartbreak".

This past summer I spent weeks only listening to Nigerian drummer Tony Allen.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

I've been reading "One Dumb Guy", Paul Meyers ‘Kids in the Hall’ biography. I think everyone needs to go back and watch all 5 seasons of ‘Kids in the Hall’, top to bottom.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Even though I read Rohinton Mistry "A Fine Balance" some years ago, it's a book that still lives with me. It broke my heart, page after page.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

I think we were better before the internet.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

I started boxing a bit this past summer, I also did a lot of karate as a kid, but haven't done anything like that for years.

Boxing, the training part, not necessarily the fighting part, I don't know anything about the fighting part, is incredibly profound. A wonderful surprise for the nervous system!

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Hawksley Workman thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go find a ring to swing fists around in, make sure to follow Hawksley on the Facebook / Twitter / Instagram and go do some Hawksley audio exploring over here.
