HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ GOLDEN

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is GOLDEN — a music-maker out of Brooklyn who has a lovely new track out called ‘Eye’ (that you can also catch on the HI54 Mix CD ‘INDIE AMERICA, USA’) // Artist photo by Kevin Condon

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

Well my top song of 2020 was Miracles by SAULT - so definitely give that a spin.

Also if you haven’t tried Grapetooth out yet- I’d def recommend- they’re tight. Great songwriters. Oh also Black Marble- their latest I listened to a ton- also great songwriting. Here’s a playlist i made for the release that all those artists are on:

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

Well one of my favorite things to watch on TV is always music documentaries lol I really loved the John Lennon Imagine Doc that’s on Netflix- there’s a red wurlitzer in it - so dreamy- and they built a whole studio at John’s house and all the footage from the band and Phil Spector - pretty groovy shit. Could watch that kinda stuff for hours.

But for regular like drama and tv stuff I’d say:

Derry Girls is definitely a hidden gem on Netflix- lol

• Also try out Apple & Onion - I think it’s on Cartoon Network lolol

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Well I read a ton- here’s a pic of the books I bought last week lol (Truth and existence - Jean Paul Sartre, Dialogues with Marcel Duchamp - Pierre Cabanne, Fear & Trembling - Kierkegaard, and Baudelair, Rimbaud, Verlaine - Selected Poetry and Prose).

I studied History & English in college too so I can be a bit of a nerd. Words are definitely one of my favorite things to fuck with though- sorta like notes, you can combine them to mean totally different things. Blows my mind a bit lol - also shoutout to my favorite book stores in Brooklyn- Spoonbill & Sugartown and Human Relations.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

I’M OBSESSED WITH STRONGBAD lol lol. And the whole homestar runner crew- sometimes I wanna do a homestar runner music video or some kind lol

And another - is one that DID go away and I still cry about it - was this website that had a Jamaican dude saying “beer can” on one side and “bacon” on the other- and you could click them back and forth- and you know… it sounded the same lol here’s what’s left of that website in a youtube video:

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Well that’s a tough one- but honestly the first thing that came to my mind was love each other more - especially these days. Reach out to your homies - make sure they’re doing ok. It’s rough out there and the best thing we can do is stick together <3

OK folks, there you have it. Things that GOLDEN thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go reach out to your homies, make sure to follow GOLDEN on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give ‘Eye’ a listen below…
