HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ GAADGE

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Gaadge — a group of music-makers out of Pittsburgh whose great new album “Yeah?” dropped today, yeah? (and you can find the track ‘Twenty-Two’ on the HI54 Mix CD ‘INDIE AMERICA, USA’)

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

Ethan: Kemistry & Storm's DJ-Kicks mix from 1997. I've been listening to it nonstop for months now and I think everyone on the planet should check it out. Maybe the best DnB mix ever.

Nick: Monochrome Set’s album Strange Boutique. It’s so ahead of its time and rich with amazing pop melodies.

Mitch: I’ve really been diving into Helvetia’s “Nothing in Rambling” again. As much as I love that band’s earlier work, I really think they hit a mark with that album.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

Ethan: Mr. Show with Bob and David. Every episode is on YouTube, seasons 3 and 4 are particularly good.

Nick: Probably Chris Morris’s Jam. Old BBC surrealist sketch comedy show. It’s obscenely dark but so so so funny.

Mitch: I’m gonna riff off Nick a little and say The Young Ones. Another pretty absurd British comedy show, but this one’s got Rik Mayall and the character Neil just kills me. I’ve been finding a lot of comfort in dumb, nonsense TV.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Ethan: Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Very scary and very good science fiction short story published in the late 60s I've read a couple times lately.

Nick: Mishima’s Confessions of a Mask is one that I finished pretty recently that resonated with me. It’s largest an introspective and has a great ending.

Mitch: I’ve finally picked up this “Andy Kaufman Revealed!” book that’s been lying around my room for a minute. It’s written by his best friend/partner in crime, Bob Zmuda, and it’s pretty wild. I love hearing about that dude’s life from his perspective.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Ethan: gbvdb.com

Nick: gbvdb.com

Mitch: Kermit media

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Ethan: We should all cut down on shitty beer. I love a cold Rolling Rock on a warm summer night, but the closure of most bars has really brought to my attention how much havoc I'm wreaking on my gut with the stuff. You'll also feel a lot better, and you owe that to yourself in our doomed social climate.

Nick: I started cooking more during the pandemic. It’s great to try out a new technique once a week. I also recently got a sous-vide and can’t recommend it highly enough. it’s so easy to use and it makes any protein taste to much better than using an oven

Mitch: Eat Quik-It Chicken.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Gaadge thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go pour all your shitty beer down the drain while you watch sous-vide how-to videos and wait for your Quick-It Chicken delivery to arrive from Pittsburgh, make sure to follow Gaadge on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give ‘Twenty-Two’ a listen below…
