HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ ELWOOD MERCY

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Elwood Mercy- a singer-songer from San Francisco whose appropriately titled new 3 song EP ‘3 <3 SONGS’ is a catchy bit of ear candy that you should pop over to Bandcamp to sample right after the checkin’ the recs below.

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

I'll give you two, one old and one new.

The first is the old: Johnny Paycheck is one of my absolute favorite artists. I was born in a really small town in rural Northern California and have a kind of weird obsession with 70's and 80's country music. Johnny Paycheck is one of the best.

Now the new: in 2017 I had to opportunity to tour the country as a touring member of Low Roar, and we were playing a support slot for a New York Band called San Fermin. One of their members started a new project recently called Behaviorist and I haven't been able to stop listening to his song 'Good Guy' since it came out.

Highly recommend Behaviorist!

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

My favorite movie of all time is Point Break with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swazey, so that might be a re-watch recommendation for you guys.

The 90's show The Outer Limits has also been one of my favourite things to watch right now.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

This is a good one, I love books. The best book I've read all year was 'The Terror' by Dan Simmons. It's a historical fiction novel about an expedition to find the north passage in the 1800's. These two ships get stuck in the ice in the middle of absolutely nowhere and the tactile feeling of cold, desolation, and slow descent into madness is really amazing to immerse yourself in.

What's crazier is that the story is true, and the two ships were only recently discovered in the past few years. The plot is fictionalized, but it's a really interesting idea of what could have happened to these 200 sailors. There's also a huge arctic monster killing them one by one on the ice. Really an amazing book.

Also, as I was reading this book an AMC limited series came out which is a ten-episode version of the book; totally recommend that as well, but as usual the book is way more insane.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

I spend way too much time on Reddit and Youtube.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Start eating more vegetables and exercising! The best thing you can do for yourself is to try to get active, no matter what that means to you.

Try to see more of the world around you with your own eyes, and spend time with the people you love doing things that make you're mind and body happy.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Elwood Mercy thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off to go jog off with some veggies, make sure to follow Elwood Mercy on Facebook and Instagram and go pop over to Bandcamp to give the new ep some ear time.
