HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ DAVID JAMES ALLEN

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is David James Allen — a singer-songer out of Ontario who just dropped the first single, ‘Birthday Cake’, off of upcoming album ‘Radiations’ (and you can also find that latest single in the HI54 mix cd ‘EH CANADA’).

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

When you have 15 minutes to spare and you want to use it to chill out then go put on the song Idle Moments by Grant Green.

It floored me the first time I listened to it, its got a beautiful relaxed and haunting vibe... its also a 14 minute live take!! good vibes.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

I picked two! Its hard to narrow it down and my answer would likely change day to day... so for today I'd say... TV SHOW: The Life and Times of Tim. It was was on HBO for 3 seasons, follows the ups and downs of a character called Tim who is always finding himself at the butt end of a ridiculous situation, a hilarious cartoon (might not be for everyone, but when you like it, you love it!).

As for MOVIE: The most recent movie I've watched called Parasite, I highly recommend watching it, cool narrative that advances quite rapidly, its thought provoking and provides interesting commentary on class division. It is also quite funny!

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

I would recommend picking up A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. It is a quirky, wild and imaginative tale with THE BEST characters.

Ignatius J. Reilly is the lead character and he's beautiful bundle of paranoia, intelligence, humour and idealism. It had me in stitches the entire read! Also, love your Local Library!!

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Wikipedia! I've spent many hours down a Wikipedia rabbit hole. I'd miss it for sure if it were to suddenly go away.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Walk daily. Go scope out some trails in a forest near you or just walk around the block for 30 to 60 minutes. Its a good way of awakening your mind and getting fresh air pumping through your lungs.

Reset, reflect, decompress, de-stress, take in the world slowly for an hour.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that David James Allen thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go take a walk outside, make sure to follow David on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give ‘Birthday Cake’ a listen below…
