HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ COLOUR OF RICE

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Colour Of Rice - a multi-layered creator from Switzerland, whose lovely track 'Coming Home' is the next thing you should stick in your headphones after you're done checking out the recommendations below.

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

It would be ‘Un Samedi de Août’ by Salala Kinoko. I am listening to it right now and it’s a bit scary… like a ghost story or a fairytale in an unknown world full of sounds, voices and stories.

It’s unlike any song I’ve ever heard.Otherworldly and true, that’s how I feel about it.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

I was at home watching TV (old style) and saw a preview of a movie that would be shown the next night. I remember how it really made me want to watch it so the next day I made myself comfy with a blanket and tortillas. Movie niiight!

It was… wow. I’m always interested in how two people just click. When you start feeling a tension, an attraction and desire to kiss them and hold them tight. The scene was beautiful...

‘Do you have everything you need?’ ‘No…’ Ian and Roz were real. I was so caught up in their story and still am. How one can go through pain just because of thoughts of others, of society. The last dialogue between Roz and Lil would sum it up perfectly. ‘No, Roz. You’re the only one who did everything right.’ She then says ‘Then maybe all this WAS my fault.’ Adore leaves you with an open ending & I love that.

There’s so much to discuss about and reflect upon that I’m already looking forward to seeing it again. When the movie was over, I whispered gently ‘Good night, Ian. Good night, Roz.’

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

On my night desk, there are two piles of books which I started to read and occasionally pick up to read a few pages in and a new one I just recently started is ‘BOY’ by Roald Dahl.

What I like about books is how you can just open it, plunge in another world for a while and then just close it again and go on with your own story. That’s probably why I’m not focused on one single book. When a book tires me, I just take another one. I just really like stories. I guess it might be a bit of a professional tic! ;’)

As to where I get the books from, those mostly are ‘livres migrateur’, so ‘nomadic books’. You find them in boxes in some places of the French-speaking region of Switzerland and probably elsewhere, too! It’s a thrill to open the box and find something interesting, almost like a letter box. You’re free to leave a book of yours as well and I love the idea of it being part of someone else’s life for a while – it’s the same wish I have for my songs.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Hm. I think ‘Messenger’. As I have a prepaid, I’m not into phone calls or SMS. And truth be told, it’s a shame that Switzerland still stubbornly holds on to the roaming, whereas all other EU countries started to open up and facilitate communication between each other.

That aside, I need Messenger for almost any kind of communication. Be it with my booking agent, reporters, venues and with family & friends. It’s handy and I’d be rather sad if it were to suddenly go away (especially those cute foxes)! <3

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

My recommendation would be ‘plant a tree’. It’s probably going to live much longer than you and can be a home for many living beings. But it doesn’t have to be a tree. I’m aware that not many have the chance to have their own home with a bit of land or a garden and that’s why I’m really thankful to have built a living space for many different plants and animals by making ponds, planting trees, flowers, and growing vegetables, herbs and fruits!

A Chinese proverb says ‘Your life begins the day you start a garden’. By surrounding yourself with life you’ll feel alive, too. Without having to do anything else than sit down on the grass, look around you and breathe. A friend told me ‘Souriez, vous êtes vivant’ and it truly makes me smile.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Colour Of Rice thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go scope out a spot to plant your tree, make sure to follow Colour Of Rice on Facebook / Youtube / Instagram and maybe while you peruse some lovely CoR tunes you can also check out some lovely CoR photography.
