HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ BADHEAD HYLAND

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Badhead Hyland — a singer-songer out of the UK whose lovely new EP ‘I never planned to write a record this sad' is available on Bandcamp as a ‘seeded keepsake’ (and you can catch the track ‘Happiness’ in the HI54 Mix CD ‘U…KAY?’).

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

Sheye. They're amazing and peculiarly striking sounding for a new artist. They also have great little merchandise for their record - instead of Vinyl's, they printed matchbox's, with a hologram prism in, which shows their music video. It's kinda nuts - but definitely something to listen to.

Also, anything to do with Loyle Carner. He's the best thing to come out of England since Downton Abbey.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

The Sacrifice by Takovsky. I'm a film maker by trade, so all the music videos i've shot recently for Ida Mae has been inspired by that guy. Those films are insane.

Also, Beginners by Mike Mills. He's dope. Totally unique voice and gives me hope.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Ooof, great questions. I'm just about to start Sally Rooney's 'Normal People', which is supposedly amazing, so just off the back of everyone's recommendations, I'd say that.

I love Nick Hornby and give a copy of 'High Fidelity' to anyone who's important to me, so they better understand my psyche. Anything by Zadie Smith. Jon Ronson. BJ Novak's 'One more thing' is pretty hilarious too.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Wow! My boring answer is WhatsApp. I have a million and one chats with the same people for different topics (Sunday coffee, football, boring shit like that), so that'd really mess with my routine.

My sorta interesting answer is Coolors, which helps with my graphic design and illustration work a lot and generates random colour schemes to use.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Look, I know this is classic, cringe worthy, pseudo spiritualist thing to say - but meditation. It's completely changed my life since I started doing it.

Also, cycling - me and my best friend kick about on our bikes like we're 10 - just when ya hit 30, you can afford a slightly sexier bike, but it's pretty much the same thing as to when you're younger. We still pull the same skids.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Badhead Hyland thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go meditate on bicycle, make sure to follow Badhead Hyland on the Facebook / Instagram and then also give ‘Happiness’ a listen below…
