HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ ADELAIDE

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Adelaide, a singing-songing visual artist from Atlanta who just so happens to have a lovely new track out called 'Blue' that you can download over on Noisetrade.

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

I know I’m late to the game but I have SZA CTRL on repeat right now.

It’s basically the perfect album for every life activity. I have a bad habit of assuming I won’t be into what’s popular so it took my a while to listen to the album. Her song lyrics, melodies, and structures are so inventive and she breaks rules unapologetically. The production too :) A++++.

Other songs on repeat - “Used to It” by Ashe, “Motion Sickness” Phoebe Bridgers, “Those Were the Days” Angel Olsen, “If And” Valerie June.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

The End of the F***ing World. What a delightful discovery. I hope they win prizes.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

You’ve probably already read it, but I am about to re-read A Wrinkle in Time, and we could reread it together. It was my favorite when I was younger and the new movie by Ava DuVernay reminded me how extraordinary and timeless the story is.

For something new, try Stolen Beauty by Laurie Lico Albanese. It is the story of Gustav Klimt’s painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer, one of the most influential women in the arts in Austria during her time.

She was a patron of the arts and occasionally modeled for Klimt. When Nazis invaded Austria during the war they seized the finest possessions of the wealthiest Jewish families including the Bloch-Bauers. The book narrates two story lines across different periods of time related to these events. It is a page turner.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Birchbox. I love getting mail, even junk mail. I just love walking to the mailbox and opening it up to a surprise with my name on it. It feels sort of romantic and old fashioned I guess.

Birchbox is great because I get presents to myself in the mail every month AND I get to try out fancy beauty products.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Take a probiotic (I like Garden of Life), don’t be stingy with your love (Try Deepak Chopra’s Soul of Healing Affirmations), exfoliate (Glow Girl Buttery Salt Scrub by Dirty Works).

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Adelaide thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and start practicing being less stingy with your love, make sure to follow Adelaide on Instagram and Facebook and go give 'Blue' a listen/download over on Noisetrade.
