HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ MATT LINDEN

* This Q&A with Matt is being re-broadcast from June 2016, but don't worry: top notch recommendations have a long shelf life.

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

Young Thug. The most dynamic, exciting artist going right now. I seriously cannot get enough of him. I will dig for features, videos, unreleased tracks ... everything.

You can't go wrong with any of his output over the last couple years, but I would recommend Barter 6 as an introduction into his world for anyone that hasn't been exposed yet. That's definitely the "heady" album. For the turn up, throw on Tha Tour Pt. 1. Sheeesh!

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

So I'm going to keep the music theme going and recommend Green Room.

I'm a massive horror buff and while this movie isn't horror per se, it truly was one of the most unrelenting, visceral films I've seen in the theaters in some time. Believe the hype. Sir Patrick Stewart is downright menacing as the nihilistic neo-Nazi leader whose band of loyal skinheads find themselves in a full-scale standoff with a touring DIY punk band who are certainly in the wrong place at the worst time.

The film uses its dark humor, brutally realistic violence and punk spirit to pull you in and wring you out. I give this one two machetes way up!

3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut.

Nothing much needs to be said. Simply one of the greatest science fiction stories of the 20th century, by one of its greatest authors. This is my favorite book.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Bandcamp + Twitter + Datpiff + ThePirateBay (for movies). Sorry, I cheated and named a few. I hope the feds don't read this.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

I've been making my way through John Carpenter's filmography again. Everyone knows his big ones ... The Thing, Halloween, etc ... but the lesser known, B-movie schlock he fell back on in the middle of his career are the real gems. Price of Darkness, In the Mouth of Madness, They Live ... these are all classic. Brooding, atmospheric and a cynically bent worldview shape these flicks into pieces that will be talked about 100 years from now.

Plus, these all have the quintessential synth soundtracks done by the man himself, which have since been ripped off countless times since he introduced his signature style back in the ‘70s. The guy is a living legend and I think much of his cannon is pretty underrated. Dig in!

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Matt thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you go look (and look again) to see if there are any FBI agents peeking in through the window, go follow Matt on Twitter & then follow Forged Artificats on Twitter too (and give 'em a follow on the Instagram too while you're at it).
