HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ AARON POWELL (FOG LAKE)

* This Q&A with Aaron from Fog Lake is being re-broadcast from July 2016, but don't worry: top notch recommendations have a long shelf life.

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Judee Sill's "Heart Food".

Absolutely incredible record by a women who lived a tragic life that got cut short. Pretty memorizing album that I'm surprised not many of my friends know of.

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

The last truly great movie I saw was "Green Room". Seriously had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, relentless. Patrick Stewart made such a menacing villain and it was bittersweet to see Anton Yelchin go out on his best movie. Modern classic.

#3 - I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE BOOK STORE (OK, PROBABLY AMAZON) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

There's this really cool book series called "33 1/3" that covers a bunch of classic records made in the last 20 years. There was one about Elliott Smith that details his process of making "XO" and really paints him as a focused, excited and devoted artist and ignores the 'tortured artist' stigma he's garnered. Beautiful and inspiring read.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

There's this guy on youtube named "Dr. Wolfula" and he does these funny reviews of trashy old b-movies and slasher flicks. I'm a huge horror movie buff so I adore what he's doing. All his reviews are hilarious and cheer me up when i'm in a depressive spell. I can binge watch his reviews for hours on end. Love ya Cyd. Check it out!

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

Too many people see finding true love as the end-game of happiness. I've been guilty of that in the past. But I think in order to find that you need hope first. Without hope, love is a lost cause. I see so many people and they feel like they're nothing without someone else. Look for peace of mind and love will come easy.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Aaron thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you go off looking for pieces of mind, go follow Aaron on Twitter & Instagram and like on Facebook (and go pick up some/ALL of his albums over on Bandcamp).
