Tumblr Dashboard Clean-Up
A little while ago, I mentioned how I needed to re-think my internetting. There were a lot of factors playing into my time online feeling like a chicken with its head cut-off running around dropping eggs all over the place, and one of those things was my tumblr.
Well, I think I've now sorted out the issue of my time spent updating it. I was queueing up 2 posts a day, and that has now been cut to queuing up just 1 post a day —and I've decided to make each episode of the bi-weekly Mix Tape Radio show 14 tracks, so you can probably math out what those 14 posts will be— and if anything else catches my fancy for the week, I just post it whenever.
That change has more or less sorted out how I post to Tumblr (and I can already feel the difference that has made on the time I spend updating my Tumblr)… which just leaves the matter of making my Dashboard (i.e. what other people are posting) more useful to me. So I started a Tumblr Dashboard Clean-Up.
The picture at the top isn't quite accurate, as I only cut the blogs I follow down to 100 not 0… but even dropping the number to that has already turned my Dashboard into something a lot more meaningful to my interests (and also made me realize just how much the time zone I am in effects how buried a lot of North American tumblrs I enjoy can get). I think I was only following around 400-500 tumblrs before, but my Dashboard had become a massive stream of hay I needed to scroll past in order to find the 1 or 2 needles I was looking for. And there always seemed to be a lot of 'artistic nudes' sprinkled throughout, which would often prove to be a source of unproductiveness, sending me off to different corners of the internet where the 'less artistic nudes' are kept.
But I digress… the main reason for this post is I wanted to ask any of you who use Tumblr:
If you could only follow 3 Tumblrs… which ones would they be?
I'm hoping to construct a Dashboard that is less of a distraction and more of an enriching corner of my internet. So drop you favourites off in the comments, or tweet at me / shoot me an email.
And because it wouldn't be fair to ask without giving, here's the 3 tumblrs I would follow if I could only follow 3:
So if you use Tumblr and don't already, you should follow those three. And then you should also maybe let me know which three you couldn't do without. And if you're Dashboard has become a bit of mess, maybe consider giving it a good wipe as well.
