So… a few days ago, I put together a new Tumblr & Twitter account under the name of 'fandcamp'. As you have probably worked out —because you're clever and because the name is not that clever, and because I just took the 'b' from Bandcamp's logo and swapped it with an 'f' and reversed the rhombus— 'fandcamp' is a combination of 'fan' and 'bandcamp'. Or rather, 'fan accounts' and 'bandcamp'.
For the most part, I'm just going to be posting great albums that are available on Bandcamp every day, with the added twist of including a fan account review underneath (with a link back to that fans Bandcamp collection). It looks something like this:
So not only do you get a daily recommendations for adding to your own Bandcamp collection, but you can also pop over to that Fan's collection and find even more gems. Granted, this is kind of how the Bandcamp Music Feed works already… but that's only if you're following the right people (and if you're using it). So this 'fandcamp' thing aims to help you get your Bandcamp Collection and Music Feed up to the level where your Bandcamp Collection and Music Feed and Bandcamp App become your precious (i.e. by stocking your Collection with great music & following Fan Accounts with similar taste to keep your Music Feed pumping out never ending discoveries, all the while carrying all of that around in your pocket with the App).
I have a few other ideas and things to hopefully add to the regular fandcamp output, but for now, it'll just be great albums available on Bandcamp with little reviews done by people who buy music on Bandcamp (or rather, people who buy music on Bandcamp AND write little reviews… which I'm slowly discovering is not everybody). If you're one of those people and think I should check out your Collection, drop a link in the comments or shoot me an email (and if you also have a Twitter & Tumblr, shoot me that as well). I'm going to start off by doing just 1 post a day (as 365 album recommendations in one year is a pretty decent number), but I'll probably be upping the ante to 2-3 posts a day in the near future (as my Collection alone currently has 336 albums in it, so 365 doesn't sound like that much anymore). There's definitely no shortage of great music on Bandcamp, it's just that the great music doesn't always have a fan review to go with it (but there is still plenty to chose from, it just takes a little extra digging).
In the meantime, if you like the idea of daily Bandcamp music / fan recommendations… follow fandcamp on Twitter & Tumblr (and of course, this kind of goes without saying, but get yourself a Bandcamp Fan Account already).
